Great Violin Concertos: Bruch, Chausson, Mendelssohn, Prokofiev, Saint-Saens, Tchaikovsky
One of the great violinists of the century, Francescatti was also an important figure in the history of Columbia Masterworks. This two-CD set represents his remarkable collaboration with Dimitri Mitropoulos and the New York Philharmonic, performing popular concertos recorded between 1950 and 1954. The set also includes a performance of Chausson's Poeme with the Philadelphia Orchestra and Eugene Ormandy and makes available for the first time on compact disc Francescatti's legendary recordings of the Mendelssohn, Bruch, Tchaikovsky and Prokofiev Violin Concertos.
